I have been on the healing process for my last few surgery's on my knee for almost a year now. Crazy to think its been that long. I was having a tough time and didn't know what God had in store for me...
I was noticing that my mare and I were building a stronger relationship this year. Even when I couldn't ride or do great groundwork with her. She was fully trusting me and ran to me when she was afraid, angry, happy, tired, and/or confused. I thought that was so cool! And it made me think.... I thought, its like the relationship we should have with Christ. :) We should never depend on ourselves. We should run to Him, and trust his plan. Liz was doing that with me! She knew that I knew what was best for her. That I would be there to scratch her if she wasn't feeling good, comfort her if she was afraid. She would look to me if she didn't understand, and trust in my judgment. Even if it meant being uncomfortable!
There is no good reason she stands there and trusts me, as a crack a whip beside her and unexpectedly throw a yoga ball at her face. Or put a bitt and bridle on her head and expect this 1500 pound horse to listen to my quite hands and do exactly as I say. Or not to go running as a dog snaps at her feet and I tell her she needs to stay calm and trust that I wont let the dog hurt her. There is NO REASON for her to trust me. She has a will of her own and she is a 1500 pound animal with a mind of its own, and I am but a 115 pound girl that hobbles around! So, why does she trust me? She chose to. No offence to the horse, but we are the superior creature! And she knew that. Its not like I beat her into submission, or tell her she has to do something. She just chose to trust me and make me her leader. How cool that a horse can see that.. That we are more knowing. That we take all things into account for them. How quickly they see that and give themselves up to us!
Granted, it seams like the horse is a much stronger creature... But they are unlike us. God created us special! In his own image! Why cant we trust God as willingly and as quick as the horse trust us. And we fail the horse, over and over again. God never fails us! EVER! He always has our best interest. A unique plan for each and every one of us! Why do we feel like we don't need Him!?!?!
So after realizing all of that, I decided I wasn't trusting God enough. Not for everything! As I have been greatly tested this year, I should be running to Him more!
So, laying Liz down. I started a while ago. I had been spraying her with water, knowing that she would want to roll. I would say "no" (not verbally) then after she gave up with that, I told her "go ahead a take a nice roll!" And she would! That was my start! Did that for a few months. She was starting to get my vibe, getting good at rolling. But I had yet to ask her without water and without rolling and just to lay down!
So, I decided to do so today! Josh was my photographer!
What I do is tie her leg up, or I could just hold it up. But I am
far to lazy for that!
As you can see, she is cool with it and is trusting me.
A horses legs are their most prized possession! They don't want there
legs taken away cuz then they cant run! So its huge if you can tie your horses
legs up and they don't struggle or flip out!
making it as comfortable as possible. but it still is uncomfortable. She stands there trusting me.
Does God ever take something away from you? Do you stand quietly and trust him?
I have a loose line. I bend over and ask her head to come down as the cue to lay down. She doesn't look worried at all!
She never struggles, just looks to me for the answer.
all I am using is body language. You can see that she is thinking about lying down. Or sleeping... :)
Please don't do this with your horse without a pro! Could end up disastrous!
A nice scratch to let her know she is doing well.
I don't pull on the line. its all her choice to lay down. all I am doing is asking!
her head came up as resistance. I just put a tiny bit of pressure on the line to remind her.
I know we resist God more then we think... And He just patiently reminds us.
After 5 minutes, she starts going down! When do we ever do as God asks in 5 minutes??!! Seriously!
I am telling her she's such a smart little lass!
Plop! What a smart babe!
I then go up and take everything off of her and praise her lavishly!
She just chills there watching and listening to me. Laying down is a HUGE sign of trust. Cuz they are venerable to anything! They cant do anything but bite when they are down.
She is totally chill, knowing I wont let anything happen to her!
Its so huge of her to do this! And to not look worried at all! I thought she might fall asleep!
It just struck me how much my horse was willing to trust me. Even to let Josh come over and pet her too! She wouldn't let us do that if she didn't want to! Pretty cool right?! Funny how a horse can show you Gods grace and our sin... uugghh.. I feel so ashamed some times that a horse is willing to give there lives to us and we are merely humans who force them to do things unnatural and mess up over and over. While we have an amazing God who died for us and loves us and asks us to run to Him and Trust Him! I pray that you run to God for everything. He never fails us and is always there! In the good and the bad! Run to him and trust his mighty hand!
